The Dominican Day Parade Will Honor Royce at its Pre-parade Gala on August 10 at Terrace on the Park
The Dominican Day Parade, Inc. (DDP) named Prince Royce as their Grand Marshal. He will be honored at their annual benefit Gala on Friday, August 10th. Prince Royce will lead the parade, which is honoring Dominican youth, down Sixth Avenue on Sunday, August 12 in Manhattan. As a New York-born Dominican American who has achieved phenomenal global success as a singer and songwriter, Prince Royce is an example for youth and is committed to be a voice of change to our communities.
“It is an incredible honor to be chosen as the Grand Marshal of the 2018 Dominican Day Parade, especially during a year that it focuses on our youth. I grew up watching the parade and to be leading it this year will definitely be a blast,” Prince Royce expressed.
It’s the first time Prince Royce participates in the parade. His presence signals the reverence and honor he gives to his people and most importantly, our youth. Our youth are making tremendous positive strides in the arts, community service, technology and sciences as evidenced by several of this year’s parade Ambassadors and Rising Stars. Prince Royce is a young role model who understands the challenges our youth face. He was born and raised in the Bronx and has a heart full of pride for his Dominican Republic roots. This year’s parade theme, “Our Youth, Our Future” supports the initiatives that the Dominican Day Parade will be planning for the 2018-2019 year.
“As chair of the Dominican Day Parade and on behalf of our board of directors, we are honored to have Prince Royce as the Grand Marshal of the 2018 Dominican Day Parade,” said Maria Khury, Chair of the Dominican Day Parade Inc. “Prince Royce embodies this year’s theme “Our Youth, Our Future”. He inspires our youth through his talent and charisma and demonstrates that passion combined with discipline are the key to unlocking and manifesting the dreams of our youth”.
“Congratulations to our 2018 Grand Marshal, Prince Royce. The Board of Directors is excited and thankful to have “Uno de los Nuestros” lead the way,” added Ms. Khury.
The Dominican Day Parade board includes notable professionals of Dominican-American heritage who are respected public and private sector members. In support of its mission, the board awarded $104,000 in scholarships to Dominican youth in 2019. The board of directors is aggressively seeking to double that amount in 2019. The parade is a national event held the second Sunday of August in New York City. For more information about the Dominican Day Parade Inc. and for a list of sponsors visit here.
