Emerson Brito is a prominent folklorist, designer and Dominican businessman who was born and grew up in Baní with his sisters Delia and Mirna next to his mother who is distinguished professor and poet Amparo Pimentel. His father Felipe Brito emigrated to the United States when Emerson was just two years old. The absence of the father figure in his home was palpable.

Emerson experimented how difficult that was for his mother to raise the family with limited resources. It was during his years of primary education that Emerson began to show signs of his creativity and artistic talent while tending Máximo Gómez School in Peravia Province, Dominican Republic. Despite his penchant for art and the Dominican culture, Emerson focused on studies to perform as a professional. So it was when on the verge of graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, he decides to leave the numbers for his true passion, art and culture.

“My passion is art, not the numbers”. Emerson.

He settled in Salem, Massachusetts, he began to engage in different artistic and cultural activities in that city, where the Dominicans excelled. During this period, he emphasized the development of various groups of children and youth in the city of Lynn, Massachusetts. He also organized several cultural pageants, Dominican and Hispanic festivals in that area. His passion for art and culture manifests itself in its eagerness to participate in different events where his presence was requested with its characters he has created in his career.

Message for our youth:

«In 2014, a group of friends that share the same cycling passion, incorporated a charity mission into an existing mountain bike event, in the remote mountainous areas of the Dominican Republic.

The Gravelers Bicycle Group was born. Our mission? To personally deliver much needed book bags filled with school supplies and simultaneously bring a message of Hope by stressing importance of education to the children, who need it most, in the remote areas of the Dominican Republic which we appropriately titled “Tour de la Esperanza” (“Tour of Hope”).

Why? …Because some of the Gravelers were once one of those children, both in Dominican Republic and New York City; and are now successful professionals as a result of people who believed in us ….who took a moment to stop, to look into our eyes, to acknowledge us and motivate us with their words of wisdom acquired through life experiences. Now, we are able to give back, sharing our own message from our own experiences and returning to Dominican Republic every February since then.

Since 2014, we’ve traveled a different route during every mission and have delivered school supplies to children in Loma de Cabrera, Monte Cristi, Sosua/Cabarete, Tenares, San Francisco de Macoris, Nagua, Las Terrenas, Bayaguana, Sabana de la Mar, Miches, Punta Cana, Barahona, Bahia de las Águilas, Pedernales, Constanza, La Cienega, Las Aullamas, Jarabacoa, just to name a few areas.

With the intention of legitimately organizing fund raising events to execute our mission we established “Hope… One Pedal Stroke at a Time, Inc.” d/b/a “Pedal for Hope,” a nonprofit corporation. Our mission statement says it all: “Pedal for Hope” is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation, established for the purpose of bringing “HOPE…” of a brighter future to the children of the world by providing school supplies to underprivileged children living in remote areas, via the human effort of pedaling a bicycle while riding long distances «»…One Pedal Stroke at a Time.”

We are constantly fundraising and creating events involving local community, which include the “Grally” (Gravel+Rally) and the “E100” (Everglades 100); bicycle riding events on gravel roads, both unique and challenging; all for a good cause.

Donations to Pedal for Hope are kindly accepted via:
